The Angel of Independence: Not Fallen, Just Filming

The iconic monument of Mexico City, the Angel of Independence, was the protagonist of an unusual incident that surprised passersby. Images of a sculpture split in two on the steps of the monument went viral on social media, causing alarm among citizens.

However, it was clarified that this was not the original Angel of Independence nor any of its sculptures, but rather props used for the filming of a movie. The director and screenwriter, José Manuel Cravioto, explained that scenes from 1957 were being recreated when the Angel "fell," as part of the film "The Man in the Crowd."

The Film Commission of Mexico City confirmed that the monument was in perfect condition and that measures had been taken to preserve this heritage of the city. The film directed by Cravioto narrates the life and work of photographer and journalist Enrique Metinides, in a thriller based on real events.

The film production, in collaboration with the production companies Península Films & Entertainment and Alebrije Producciones, has generated moments of confusion among the capital's residents, who saw images of the emblematic monument in apparent deteriorated condition. Despite the initial surprise, it was clarified that it was all part of the movie shoot and that the Angel of Independence remained in its place and in good condition.
